El complejo astronómico El Leoncito

Abstract

Describo en este trabajo las características generales del nuevo Observatorio construido en Argentina para observaciones astronómicas desde la superficie terrestre- El sitio se encuentra en las estribaciones orientales de Los Andes a -31° de latitud. Dispone de un telescopio de 2.15 m de diámetro. La cantidad de noches útiles en el lugar es de 270 en promedio. Describo resumidamente el instrumental auxiliar actual y los planes para el futuro cercano. El presupuesto total para la operación del Observatorio incluidos sueldos es de u$s 250.000.

We describe the main characteristics of the new National facility build in Argentina for ground -based astronomical observations. Located at the Argentinien side of the Andes and at a southern latitude of -31̣°, the Complejo Astronómico El Leóncito, operates a 2.15 m reflector. The site has almost 270 useful nights per year. We describe the present auxiliary instrumentation and the plans for the near future. The total budget for the operation of the observatory is u$s 250.000.
