Características poblacionales y laborales en el ámbito rural del noreste de Santa Cruz durante la segunda huelga obrera de 1921

Abstract

En el año 1921 ocurrió en el territorio de Santa Cruz (Patagonia Argentina) una huelga de trabajadores rurales que fue reprimida por el Ejercito, saldándose con el asesinato de gran cantidad de huelguistas. Ante la escasez de antecedentes sobre las características poblacionales y laborales de los establecimientos ganaderos donde ocurrieron estos sucesos, en este trabajo construimos una base de datos de las personas presentes al momento de los hechos. Para ello empleamos dos documentos inéditos producidos por agentes estatales luego de la represión militar. Así, analizamos la presencia de habitantes nacionales y extranjeros, la mano de obra rural, los pobladores fijos y aquellos temporarios, por ejemplo. Todo esto nos permite considerar con mayor precisión la organización laboral del mundo rural en momentos en que ocurrió la huelga de peones obreros en el noreste de Santa Cruz; así como los sesgos producto de los tipos de documentos empleados.

In 1921, a rural workers' strike occurred in the territory of Santa Cruz (Patagonia, Argentina), which was repressed by the Army, resulting in the murder of many strikers. In this work, given the scarcity of background information and to know the population and labour characteristics of livestock farms where these events occurred, we built a database of the people present at the time of the strike. For this, we use two unpublished documents produced by state agents after the military repression. In this way, we analyse the presence of national and foreign inhabitants, characteristics of rural labour, permanent residents, and temporary residents, for example. This allows us to consider with greater precision the labour organization of the rural world at a time when the workers' strike took place in the northeast of Santa Cruz; as well as the biases resulting from the types of documents used.
