Profesionalización e institucionalización del campo bibliotecario argentino (1933-1949): el rol de la Comisión Protectora de Bibliotecas Populares

Abstract

En este artículo estudiamos la profesionalización y la institucionalización del campo bibliotecario argentino durante las décadas de 1930 y 1940, con especial observación de la participación de la Comisión Protectora de Bibliotecas Populares en este proceso. Con este propósito abordamos los avances en materia formativa tendientes a la especialización de la disciplina, que fueron acompañados por una expansión pública de discusiones y argumentaciones sobre cuales debían ser los fundamentos bibliotecarios así como los alcances conceptuales que le eran propios. En este marco, aludimos a la particular intervención de la entidad en la construcción del discurso público sobre los bibliotecarios y las bibliotecarias y la instrumentación de iniciativas concretas por parte de la entidad nacional. De forma específica analizamos a la Biblioteca del Bibliotecario y al Congreso Nacional de Bibliotecarios como hitos clave para comprender la inserción de las instituciones, los roles de los agentes y las dinámicas al interior de un incipiente campo bibliotecario argentino.

In this article we study the professionalization and institutionalization of the Argentine library field during the 1930s and 1940s, with special observation of the participation of the Comisión Protectora de Bibliotecas Populares in this process. With this purpose, we address the advances in formative matters tending to the specialization of the discipline, which were accompanied by a public expansion of discussions and arguments about what the library foundations should be, as well as the conceptual scope that belonged to it. In this framework, we allude to the particular intervention of the Comisión Protectora de Bibliotecas Populares in the construction of public discourse on librarians and librarians and the implementation of specific initiatives by the national entity. Specifically, we analyze the Biblioteca del Bibliotecario and the Congreso Nacional de Bibliotecarios as key milestones to understand the insertion of the institutions, the roles of the agents and the dynamics within an incipient Argentine library field.
