Género y olimpismo

Abstract

En el siguiente artículo se pretende visibilizar cómo han operado las normas sexistas implementadas por el Comité Olímpico Internacional (COI) y de qué manera ha desalentado la participación y excluido a las mujeres y las disidencias sexuales de las competencias olímpicas. Por consiguiente, se construirá una genealogía de la implementación de estas medidas y en qué contexto fueron llevadas adelante. En este sentido, se expondrá cómo se construyeron tensiones y diálogos entre estos mecanismos de segregación con las luchas políticas de las atletas y del movimiento feminista por la ampliación de derechos de las mujeres en las sociedades occidentales durante los siglos XX y XXI. Además, se hará un recorrido que visibilizará cómo los debates y las exclusiones se desplazaron de la incorporación de las mujeres cisgénero al deporte olímpico, a las discusiones que cuestionan las normativas biomédicas que organizan el deporte del alto rendimiento. Asimismo, se prestará especial atención a cómo se fue incrementando la participación de las atletas mujeres cisgénero en los Juegos Olímpicos con el correr de las décadas y cómo se vinculan a los cambios culturales que se fueron suscitando en cada una de ellas. Para esto, se recuperarán ciertos torneos y atletas de alcance nacional y global que se posicionaron como una referencia para la historia del deporte, las mujeres y la sociedad. En este sentido, si bien los casos que se retoman permiten problematizar relaciones de poder dentro del olimpismo, también sirven para exponer tramas más amplias del sistema deportivo profesional.

The following article aims to make visible how the sexist norms implemented by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) have operated and how they have discouraged participation and excluded women and sexual dissidents from Olympic competitions over time. Consequently, a genealogy of the implementation of these measures and in what context they were carried out will be built. In this sense, it will be explained how tensions and dialogues were built between these mechanisms of segregation with the political struggles of athletes and the feminist movement for the expansion of women's rights in Western societies during the 20th and 21st centuries. In addition, a tour will be made that will make visible how the debates and exclusions moved from the incorporation of cisgender women into Olympic sport throughout the 20th century to the discussions that question the biomedical regulations that organize high-performance sport. Likewise, special attention will be paid to how the participation of cisgender female athletes in the Olympic Games increased over the decades and how they are linked to the cultural changes that arose in each of them. For this, certain tournaments and athletes who were positioned as a reference for the history of sports, women and society will be indicated.
